1. The deadline for panel proposals for the World Congress 2018 extended
The organizer of the 18th IUAES World Congress in Florianópolis (16-20 July 2018) announced the extension of the deadline for the submission of panel proposals. The new deadline is 14 November 2017, and accepted panels will be announced on 30 November 2017. The call for papers/abstracts will remain open until 28 February 2017. All important dates are here.

2. IUAES Inter-Congress 2019 to be held in Poznań, Poland
The IUAES Executive Committee decided to accept the proposal for holding Inter-Congress 2019 in Poznań, Poland. The organizer is Michal Buchowski, President of the Polish Ethnological Society and Professor and Chair of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at Adam Mickiewicz University. Proposed date for the Inter-Congress is 27-31 August 2019, in the year of the centennial of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the university.
The call for proposals for the 19th World Congress in 2022/2023 and for IUAES Inter-Congresses after 2019 is still open.
3. IUAES Commission on Anthropology of Sports established
We received no objection or negative comment to the proposal for the new Commission on Anthropology of Sports by the deadline of 21 October 2017. We therefore announce the establishment of the IUAES Commission on Anthropology of Sports. It will be ratified at the General Assembly Meeting at the World Congress 2018 in Florianópolis.
4. Call for members of IUAES Commission on Anthropology and Education
IUAES Commission on Anthropology and Education is calling for new members. Please see the commission webpage for further details.
5. Members of ICSU and ISSC voted overwhelmingly for merger
ICSU (International Council for Science) and ISSC (International Social Science Council), both of which the IUAES is a member, decided to merge and form a single global council in 2018. The agreement took place in a historic vote at the Joint General Assembly of the two organizations held in Taipei on 26 October 2017. The global scientific community, including all social and natural sciences, is now united in a single entity called the International Science Council which includes 40 international scientific unions and associations and more than 140 national academies, research councils and regional organizations.
